General information about the country: The territory is 93,030 km2. A country in Central Europe bordering Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia. The territory of Hungary has a predominantly flat terrain. Most of it is located on the Middle Danube plain. The western part of the plain (Dunantul) is divided by numerous hills up to 300 m high, the eastern part (Alfeld) has a flat low-lying relief. The north-west of the country is occupied by the Kishalfeld lowland, bounded in the west by the foothills of the Alps with a height of 500-800 m (Irot-ke — 883 m). To the north of Lake Balaton, the Middle Hungarian Mountains stretch with plateaued massifs 400-700 m high (Bakon, Vertes, Dunazug). In the southern part of Dunantul, the blocky mountains of Swords rise up to 681 m high (Mount Zenge). Mount Kekesh, the highest peak in Hungary (1,014 m), is located here (in Matra). In the mountains on the border with Slovakia there is one of the largest karst caves in Europe with underground rivers and lakes — a cave called "Agtelek". The time zone is UTC+1.
