General information about the country: The territory is 70,282 km2. The state is located in the north-west of Europe, occupies most of the island of Ireland, the length of the coastline is 3,172 km. The state system is a parliamentary republic. The Head of State is the President (President of Ireland). The Head of Government is the Prime Minister (Taoiseach). The capital is Dublin (according to the Statistical Agency of Ireland — 592 thousand inhabitants; County Dublin — approximately 1,501 thousand inhabitants); the other largest cities are Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford. By administrative and territorial basis, Ireland is divided into 4 historical provinces, which include 26 counties: Munster – 6 counties, Leinster – 12 counties, Connacht – 5 counties and Ulster – 3 counties (another 6 counties of the province of Ulster are located in Northern Ireland). The national flag is a three-colored rectangular panel with vertically arranged stripes of green (at the shaft), white and orange colors. The stripes of the flag have the same size with a 2:1 ratio of width and length of the flag. The green color on the flag symbolizes the Gaelic and Anglo-Norman traditions of Ireland associated with Catholicism, orange reflects Protestant traditions, and white – reconciliation between them. The state coat of arms is a harp. The sample is a 14th-century Celtic harp kept at Trinity College University (TCD). Since 1926, the Irish national anthem has been the Irish song "The Soldier's Song", written in 1907 (words by Pedar Kearney, music by Patrick Heaney).
